We attempt to ship orders as soon as possible, but cannot guarantee processing times. On average, we ship orders within three business days. Downdays Webshop uses tracked shipping. You will receive a confirmation e-mail once your item has been shipped including a tracking number. Please follow your tracking to avoid unintended returns; we will have to charge additional shipping fees for repeated delivery. Depending on the destination, shipping time may vary. Please consult the table below for estimated shipping times. These estimates refer to our shipping provider (DHL) and may vary from actual shipping times.
For orders outside the EU: Please be aware that we ship from the European Union. Shipping to countries outside of the EU usually demands payment of customs fees and VAT depending on destination country and product category. It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to cover the bill of entry and all related costs. Downdays Webshop attempts to declare all shipped products correctly including tariff no. and country of origin in order to facilitate the import process but we cannot accept claims for any costs related to the importing of goods. Please educate yourself on your local regulations to keep costs and shipping times as low as possible. For further details, see below.
Customs fees, VAT and related topics
Importing goods usually involves the payment of tariff (often referred to as customs fees) as well as import value-added-tax, which is usually the same as your local VAT.
The tariff depends on the product category and may differ depending on the country of origin of the product. For books, the tariff is zero in most countries, whereas for clothing like t-shirts, tariff may be around 10-15% of the value of the item. (For example, to import a t-shirt into the EU, the tariff is 12%.)
VAT also depends on the product category. When the Downdays Webshop sells products outside the EU, no VAT is included in the price, and the purchaser must pay VAT to their local tax authority. Clothing is usually taxed at the standard VAT rate, while books usually have a reduced rate or may even be exempt.
When importing goods, there may be a threshold for tariff and import VAT that has to be paid depending on local customs and tax regulations. As long as the amount of tariff and import VAT per order (!) is below the said threshold, the buyer may not have to pay anything when their package is imported. In addition, the customs clearing process in this case is usually much quicker.
On the other hand, the process associated with paying tariff and/or import VAT that exceeds the given threshold may result in extended shipping times and additional fees incurred by the local shipping provider, in the case that that provider collects the payable amount on behalf of customs and tax authorities during delivery. Purchasers may even need to pay tariff and/or import VAT directly to customs authorities in order to retrieve their shipments.
Important:
Tariff and import VAT are vastly different for books and clothing! For books, due amount on tariff and import VAT may likely be below your local threshold unless you order a large amount of copies, while a single t-shirt order might already result in payable tariff and import VAT. Amounts of payable tariff and import VAT are calculated on all products in one order combined. Please educate yourself before ordering—you may want to consider purchasing products in multiple orders!

Note to our British customers:
Due to British regulations, webshops cannot sell to private clients in the UK without direct registration with the British tax authorities. As a small business, we cannot take on the associated procedure. Therefore we cannot sell clothing to the UK which is considered a private order. However, we can sell to businesses, or when the order exceeds £135 in value. We can sell books, since books are exempt from VAT.
